Cell voltage reading on BMS is not accordane with on multmeter when no load

Possible reasons:

  • Incorrect battery type setting
  • Cell wireing harnesses not connected to the BMS correctly
  • Cell tap wiring error
  • Cell impedance is very large
  • Internal damage to the BMS

Note: if the BMS has been damaged by previous wiring errors, do not continue to usd the BMS, Contact Chargery for evaluation and repair.

Resolving the issue:

  1. Disconnect all cells from BMS, all cells must be opening. measure each cell voltage on 9pin connector with multi-meter, record each cell voltage.
    • don't measure it on each cell positive and negative.
    • don't measure it when cells connected to BMS.
  2. Don't connect cells to BMS, discharge whole battery at around 1A or less for 3 minutes, measure wrong voltage cell on 9pin connector, record it. if a cell voltage drop very large, or easy to find the voltage drop, please record the cell number, the cell has a higher impedance.
  3. Power BMS by external power supply , and turn it on. check and record cell voltage readings on BMS. the higher impedance cell voltage will be accordance with voltage measured on step 1.
  4. Power BMS by battery, and turn it on. check and record cell voltage readings on BMS. the higher impedance cell voltage will not be accordance with voltage measured on step 1.  
  5. Turn BMS off, disconnect all cells from BMS, measure the resistance of pins on socket, such as 1+VS1-. 2+VS 1+, 3+VS 2+, and so on .
  6.  Send us the data on step 5, We will check and adjust if internal damage to the BMS

from step 3 and 4, check wire connetion on battery, or exchange high impedance cell to solve the issue.  from step 5 confirm if the BMS is damaged.
